To Safety Officials and Concerned Clients:

This letter is to provide you with background information on the inherent safety of ALKEN CLEAR-FLOŽ, ALKEN ENZ-ODORŽ, and other ALKENŽ bioenzyme products.

All active strains of bacteria produced are environmental isolates that have been naturally enhanced, but have NOT undergone genetic engineering. Most of our strains are from the genera of Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Enterobacter. All strains used in Alken-Murray formulas are rated as Biosafety Class 1 micro-organisms.

Strain identification is assured by visual screening, growth on specific media, biochemical reactions, and DNA analysis. Pure cultures of most strains are stored at the American Type Culture Collection. Trade secret A.T.C.C. strain identification numbers are available ONLY to qualified health, agriculture, or customs authorities, with a signed confidentiality agreement, when required for importation of bacterial products.

The bacteria are cultured in an aqueous medium that contains nutrients such as yeast extract, glucose, corn syrup solids, mineral salts, etc. Dry products are cultured on wheat bran then dried.

The production process involves subjecting the ingredients and the fermentation equipment to temperatures of 121 degrees C for at least one hour before use as a growth medium. Equipment not subjected to heat treatment is sanitized using standard techniques such as acid cleaning and/or chlorination. The sanitizing procedures used all but rule out the possibility of contamination of the product by pathogenic or other undesirable organisms.

The final product is tested for Salmonella and Shigella via the procedure recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture and Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater Treatment (18th edition), respectively. Other quality control tests that may be included involve performing a standard bacterial plate count (total and/or spore count), bacterial plate counts on other selective media, testing for the presence of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus, and checking pH and/or color matching.

An OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION FORM is issued for each order of Alken Clear-FloŽ, Alken Enz-OdorŽ, Alken Treat-A-Loo™ , and Nu-Bind verifying product origin and the results of quality control tests for EACH BATCH of product ordered.
