ALKEN NU-BIND is a unique blend of high molecular-weight natural humified peat soil extract and microbes, which eliminates high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and other noxious odors (except mercaptans). In limited applications, Alken Nu-Bind can bind copper, cadmium and other heavy metals. The formula contains twenty-one strains of gram-positive Bacillus, which produce the following enzymes: casease, protease, amylase, lipase, esterase, cellulase, ligninase, gelatinase, sulfide oxidase, urease, ammonia monooxygenase, lecithinase, nitrate reductase, nitrite reductase, catalase and oxidase. Between them, these bacteria ferment most sugars, tolerate more acid conditions than most Bacillus and eight of the strains tolerate salt levels above 7%. The all-natural humified soil extract also acts as a biostimulant to further enhance bacterial activity of gram-positive bacteria. Alken NU-BIND is biodegradable and harmless to humans, pets, livestock, and wildlife, when used as directed. For additional information on humic substances, see Properties of Humic Substances. |

The microbial component of ALKEN NU-BIND is activated by DILUTION with water. Thoroughly shake bottle or pail, before diluting, to stir the brown residue up from the bottom, ensuring that all of the spores are in solution. The shelf-life of diluted product is one (1) month. Hot water, bleach, disinfectants, and strongly alkaline detergents will deactivate ALKEN NU-BIND, and should not be mixed with the product. For large area applications (garbage cans, dumpsters and surrounding surfaces): Dilute 2-8 ounces of ALKEN NU-BIND per gallon of water, and spray on odor source. Severe odor can be neutralized in 10-20 minutes with an initial full-strength application, followed by diluted applications for lasting results.
To Eliminate Hydrogen Sulfide Odors and Corrosion, in Waste Treatment Plants and Lagoons: Meter product into system as close to the source generating the highest levels of hydrogen sulfide. Use the following formula to shock the system on Day 1:
The resulting answer gives dosage in gallons, and should provide a decrease of 60 to 75% hydrogen sulfide concentration at the end of the first 24 hours of application. Day 2: Reduce dose to 60% of Day 1 application rate Day 3: Reduce dose to 40% of Day 1 application rate Maintenance: Continue reducing dosage by 10% a day until odor begins to return, then maintain slightly above that level. Experience has shown that rates as low as 2 ppm have been effective. For Lift Stations: Apply 100 to 200 yards upline from the problem station. For H2S AND Ammonia Odor Control at Turkey and Pig Barns: For each 1000 square feet of barn area, dilute 1 pint (16 oz.) in 2 gallons of unchlorinated water and apply with a backpack sprayer or agricultural sprayer, every 7 to 10 days. Keep product damp to maintain effectiveness. For H2S and Ammonia Odor Control in Chicken Barns: For each 1000 square feet of barn area, dilute 1/2 gallon of NU-BIND in 5 gallons of unchlorinated water and apply with either an agricultural sprayer or a backpack sprayer, the night before chickens are introduced to the barn. Reapply twice a month, if necessary. Keep product damp to maintain effectiveness. To Control Foaming from Nocardia: Spray heavily directly onto the foam in the system until foam abates. Meanwhile apply Alken Clear-Flo 7015, at the front of the plant to add more floc forming microbes to balance the system and prevent recurrance of foaming problems. |
